AIDA Cruises — Shadow Roofs
For the new-generation of AIDA Cruises Hahlbrock produced the “Shadow
Roof”, a large-format lightweight
construction and erected them on the
ship’s sundecks.

The two-part symmetrical canopy structure, reminiscent of an aircraft wing, is made from GRP and weighs 3.5 t in total. The panels between the frames of the structure are in the form of louvres and the openings are covered completely with panels made from HALUSITE® , the translucent GRP material. Thanks to the use of modern composite materials, the weight could be reduced by approx. 50% compared with an aluminium structure. And that with the same strength – for the “Shadow Roof” has to withstand wind speeds of up to 250 km/h!
April 2007 saw the 68 500 GRT cruise ship AIDAdiva launched in the Port of Hamburg, April 2008 the AIDAdiva constructed in the same way. 2009 the AIDAluna followed, 2010 the AIDAbella.
